I had known throughout my time in the military that there are many things you need to know to survive on the battlefield. One of these is how to properly field strip your weapon. The process of doing so can be time consuming and tedious, but it is important that it finished correctly in order not to risk damage or injury if an enemy attack were ever made on your position. I have shared with you what I have learned, including the steps on ensuring a safe weapon upon completion of this procedure. Completion of this process will provide more confidence during combat or any other situation where weapons are present. It will also allow you to enjoy the process and become more familiar and at ease with how it should be done. Field Stripping A Weapon: 1. If the weapon is loaded, unload your magazine and lock your bolt back before proceeding. This will prevent any accidental discharge or jamming of the weapon. 2. Ensure that your safety is still on and safety is engaged (with the exception of .38s). 3. Pull down on your charging handle to insert a round into the chamber, ensuring that your safety does not disengage during this step as well as ensuring the weapon fires properly when active engagement has been completed. 4. Push the charging handle down and lift your thumb off the safety before pulling the bolt back. 5. Using your thumb, pull the charging handle from the receiver. 6. Using a firm grip on the front of your weapon, pull it from your shoulder to remove from your body leaving only the barrel touching your skin. 7. Place a rag or towel underneath or on top of where your weapon will be placed for safety purposes to prevent scratches and nicks which could cause potential harm to you if accidentally dropped during this step. 8. Using a firm grip, pull the charging handle from the receiver. 9. Using a firm grip, pull down on your charging handle and lift your thumb off the safety before pulling the bolt back 10. Using a firm grip, pull down on your charging handle and lift your thumb off the safety before pulling the bolt back 11. Repeat Steps 8-10 until every piece of metal has been removed from your weapon. 12. For items such as the carrying handle, hammer and trigger assembly, ensure that your safety is still on and engaged. 13. With your weapon still intact, slide the bolt forward and place it into place buttoning it into place once completed. 14. Inserting a new magazine into your weapon will complete Step 13. Safeguarding Your Weapon: It is important to note that even when field stripping a weapon in accordance with the procedures above, it is always best practice to have an extra safety or two on hand when in combat or other situations where weapons are present so that if one should fail during use by you, you will have another in place in case of an accident. eccc085e13
